On seam for everything other than five pocket. While we are on the subject of pockets, I always found the pockets on Bill's khakis too shallow. So I gave up on them.
Wow, I am genuinely surprised as I thought Bill's (vintage twills and similar styles) are on the deep side.

I suggest you never, ever consider a pair of J.Crew pants as the pockets on those pants are about half the depth of Bill's.

I must have just had a few pairs from an oddball run. I put my credit card wallet in my left front pocket, and when I am seated it is atop my thigh. In those Bill's it was at the flexion point of my groin, not exactly comfortable.

That's definitely short. It's just not the experience I've had with Bill's. As you say, probably just a one-off or a different run, or style or "that year" they did something, etc.

That surprises me. I have close to thirty pairs of Bill's Khakis and never had anything other than deep, full pockets with them. You may have picked up an odd run of trousers where something went wrong.

Show of hands: On-Seam or quarter off seam front trouser pocket style. I am a strict on-seam pocket with guy
with all trousers and pants except jeans and PJ's.
I have both kinds, and I have mixed feelings about on seam pockets. With wear, they sometimes bulge out from the natural line of the hip, which angled off seam pockets do not usually do (unless you stuff enormous objects into your pockets, LOL). That said, on seam pockets are certainly more elegant.
