I've stalked these forums for many answers over the years, but a recent problem has me a bit flummoxed, so I'm making my first post looking for a bit of guidance. Plus, I'm finally getting to the age when I should care about good clothes.

I'm in the market for a new topcoat and/or greatcoat/overcoat. The problem is I'm long and lanky. I'm 6'4" and wear a 40L jacket. A lot of good coats I've looked at (New & Lingwood, for example) only make regular sizes, and with the bitter Chicago winds, I'm not willing to have a coat that doesn't get down to my wrists.

In a perfect world, I'd like to get a topcoat for the autumn days when its between 30 and 50 degrees Fahrenheit, and then a longer overcoat for when Chicago winters really pick up. If possible, I'd also like the overcoat to be dressy enough to bring to the opera/symphony when I can.

I've been eyeing a Cordings navy covert coat to serve as that cooler-weather topcoat, and have been looking at something from Crombie for a longer and warmer overcoat.

Any recommendations on other brands/services would be welcome. I have checked some vintage/resale services, but my size doesn't seem to be in stock in a lot of places. Any other thoughts would be warmly welcome.

Not a huge selection, But O'Connell's have at least few nice coats in your size. As with everything from O'Connell's, I would anticipate good quality and traditional style.

London Fog used to make raincoats in Extra-Long lengths, which were even longer than Long. If you want to buy new, then you'll have to go to a retailer like BB which will have different lengths and hope that their Long length will be long enough. I've know two people over the years who were extra tall like you and skinny and both had troubly finding stuff, mostly having to go to specialist "big and tall" stores.
