Anyone know of a hat that is under $150 CAD that I can buy?

Something in a colour similiar to this, as opposed to a more classic stark white/cream.

I don't really know much about hats, except most look awful on me. I've a large head, and a small face. I want something that protects me from the sun, and will look great with most classic menswear summer outfits.

I measured just above my eyebrows by 0.5" and got 22 3/8" circumference around my head.

For all things 'hatly' I recommend thefedoralounge.com. Ask a question and get a very knowledgeable answer.

And BTW, I believe that what you are looking for is 'seagrass'.

Hats are a really tough call. I think you'd have to stand in front of a full length three-part mirror and stare and stare and then if it passed mirror muster, wear it out and ask the first twelve people encountered what they thought.

There are a couple people here who sometimes post of themselves in hats, all smiling and happy and they get a lot of Likes. Yet I think they look like humpty dumpties. Ideally I think your face should be slim to normal. Big and puffed out, forgetaboutit.

And there are other considerations. Standing in an airport last winter wearing my new, brimmed Harris Tweed hat with the little feather (yech, tis true tho), my traveling companion had the balls to say, You look really, really old in that. And accepting old with one Really, but not two, I stuffed it in my duffle and the scalp went commando the rest of the way.

Now here's an observation that's sure to repel all here. All guys look pretty good in a baseball cap. I mean that.

Okey doke, off I go. I recall making an account named "bat_fastard" there, time to fire it up again.

Also I had to look that colour up. I dig it, though I'd prefer something a bit more rich.
No idea if it's right for you, but that is a good looking hat.
I agree man.

I'll unfortunately have to just fire off a couple orders and return them until I find one I like.

Interesting opinion. I always thought people with big heads and faces seemed to pull off hats with gravitas. My dad for one.

If someone told me that in your position, I would have replied "Why thank you, I'm flattered!". That is not a backhanded compliment or sarcasm, I think old people are cool.

Baseball caps make my head look funny IMO.

Hats are good for you. They keep you warm when it's cold and protect you from the vicious rays of the sun when it's warm. Given the health advantages of hats, if someone told me I 'looked old' in a hat, I'd have replied, "Good, because I aim to get that way!" I've had too many friends die of melanomas of the scalp to let silly-ass discussions of whether my head was right for a hat or not to stop me from wearing one. Bloody dumb kind of discussion!

Thanks Flanderian, that's exactly the kind of hat I was looking for.

My head measures just above the high end of a medium, and on the low-end of a large.

Is it better to size up or stay a medium?
That depends upon the individual hat. While the sizes are nominally the same from hat to hat, the actuality is that the shape of the oval and the particular make and model also affect fit. Obviously, if a hat has a hat band, and it's too small, you're pretty much out of luck, as far as I'm aware they don't stretch. Whereas if a hat's slightly large and has a hat band, you can buy spacers to insert between the hat band and hat that will decrease the circumference.

I'd consult Del Monico for an informed recommendation as to how to deal with this specific hat, and if it's not too costly, I'd probably call and actually ask to speak with someone knowledgeable with the model.

Makes sense to me, thank you.

It would be if we were having that discussion. We're not. We're discussing the type of hat, not hat vs. no hat. You're reading a guy who wears a hat to bed eight months out of the year. An unheated bedroom on the second floor in Maine in February is not a comfy spot bare headed.

+1. Although in my youth I was not as quick to recognize the threat of the sun's rays and consequently I now visit a dermatologist a couple times a year so that he may reexamine my head, neck and torso to see if there are any more precancerous or cancerous spots that need to be removed. Try not to have been as slow a learned as I seem to have been! :(
