As one who always wished I was a bit more like Archie Goodwin, I have enjoyed watching Tim Hutton playing Nero Wolfe's sidekick. I never picked up from the books that he was such a snazzy dresser.

Any other fans out there ?

Charles, I as remember, Archie in the books was a moderately conservative dresser. He usually wore a blue dress shirt with a conservative suit. He explicitly never wore a white shirt, neither did Mr. Wolfe. The fact that Archie disliked white shirts in mentioned in a number of the books. Hope that helps.

It doesn't. Too late by a country mile. The post you quote was written 17 years ago.

It might not be too late—not if the OP is a patient fellow.

This thread reminds me of the following joke:

A man opens his front door to pick up his Amazon package. Next to the package is a snail. The man picks up the snail and throws it as far as he can. Six weeks later the man opens his front door to pick up another package. Next to the package is a snail, who looks up at the man and says, “What was that all about?”
