I have two pair and like them a lot. The last fits my feet very well. My one complaint is that I have a hard time keeping the tongue straight, would be better if they had a gusset part way up. Mine are regular Alden’s don’t know about the j. Crew version.

I agree with keeping the tongue straight being a bit of an issue.

I have four pairs. Three special make-ups from Leather Soul and one stock pair. They wear well and I think they look great.

Well, I've wanted an Indy boot for about seven years now as I "discovered" them right after I bought my 1000 mile boots from Wolverine and couldn't justify another similar boot purchase.

With J.Garner favorable comment on the Pacers:

I'm now considering those, but keep telling myself that, after seven years, when I do pull the trigger, I should pay up and just get the Aldens.

Another option - and probably the likely one - is that I keep this internal debate going long enough that I just die and never have to make a decision.

I have the Alden #405 for J.Crew Indy boot and while they fit properly in my regular size 11D, they look enormous with anything slimmer than a Bill's Khaki M1 full cut trouser (which I don't wear). I've not worn them in years...

I've had the J.Crew Pacer boot for a bit longer than a week and have worn them about 4 times since. My initial thoughts: Handsome boot, you should definitely size down a half size as per the comments section on the website. Welting seems well done and clean however the leather scratches extremely easily and is not a supple as an offering from AE. In fact the scratching is giving me cause for concern as it appears the finish was applied very thinly and I'm not sure polish will alleviate it.

Interested in hearing others experiences with this issue.

I've also worn about 4 times so far. Not noticing much in the way of unusual scratching. Honestly, it wouldn't bother me though. I will say I love the way they look and they are very comfortable. I am an AE size 10 and the Pacer size 9.5 is a perfect fit. Added bonus; my Wife absolutely loves them and doesn't complain as much about me wearing Khakis when I wear the Pacer boots :)

I've had my calfskin 405's for about six years. They're really well worn in, and I keep them oiled with Sedgwick's. Although they were dressy when I got them, now they look fantastic with jeans or other casual rigs. I just had the commando sole replaced this week; they're good for another year or two!

Highly recommended. But maybe the 403's in chromexcel? Choices, choices.

I've had them stitched to the correct location on one side. Nelson did it for me. Solves this problem perfectly
