Thin Stripes versus Pinstripes

Any thoughts on a fine striped suit versus a classic pinstripe? Being 6'2" and 225 pounds, I worry that closely spaced stripes will accentuate my bulky appearance.

Why am I under the impression that fine striped patterned suits are a much more recent introduction?
