At the suggestion of @Troones , a spot to share window views.

The Pinery, different windows, different views. Below, from a north window, taken at twilight earlier today

The road to the right is the town road. Everything to the left is Peakland. The horozontal tracks in the foreground form the driveway. Beyond it is the meadow. The trees that line the road and drive are oaks.

How lovely.

By the way, the drive is in the midground, just sharing a new word if don't mind.

You are absolutely correct, sir.
What's in the foreground is an outcropping of ledge that runs under the house, a Civil War era farmhouse, allowing for a basement under only a part of it. From the beginning of the shot down to the dirt drive is just that, down, the house, camera and me being on a knoll.

Last night just after about 20:00 local time the biggest and most lightning active storm I ever seen came through, lasting at least over an hour (I went to bed about 20:30 and fell asleep about 21:00). Over 45,000 people lost power, one transformer blew just south of us and power lines down elsewhere in Mesa. Power will not be back on until maybe the afternoon for some customers. Though for some reason we only experienced significant fluctuations in voltage, partly why turned in a little early, mostly because long day and rain helps me sleep.

The cellular microphone doesn't seem to be picking up the sound well. The windows are double pane, thick stucco walls, concrete tile roof over a tall attic, yet the rain was about the level of someone yelling, never heard rain so hard. The dogs were puzzled and Daithi started barking until opened the blinds.

A gaggle of geese. (Canada geese, but they stay here all year!) And summer temps this time of year are around 117 F. ??

Many of us would move there, but a few like the snowy winters.
Winhes2 (Man from Snowy Winters!):
But this is our view in winter (a few days) of snow on the mountain west of us. It gets cold in the winter; down to 70 - 80F daytime and 45 - 50 at night.

The average amount of rainfall is 4 inches (but that hasn't happened for 2 years).

What a coincidence. Our winter temperatures get down to 40 or 50 too. We just replace your "F" with a "C" and add a "-".

Those are some awesome flashes outside that window.
This is looking across the main room towards the sliding door, didn't want to get close. Apparently when it is this much lightning, it is called sheet lightning. I have a video from the bedroom window before the thunder (Oma drilled into me to stay back from windows when there is lightning as could get zapped).

The following all from the same photograph, each a bit closer. This morning, 6:45 a.m., from the back porch (never say deck, I'm not at sea.)

Little House of Duds is at far right, the south shutter open expecting high heat by noon. To the left down a slope is a rock outcropping. Two young furries face the camera, the mama is to their right, head grazing behind a bush.

Ah, Peakster, you better watch out. After all, our acquiline friend is a raptor, he will show no mercy. Raptors have twin foveae in their retinas, they can triangulate on an object from a great distance and swoop down on them. And they have six types of photoreceptors, humans have just two. Your prospects are not exactly rosy.

Now think carefully, did you ever say anything to offend Eagle? It might be a good idea to plant a white flag on the ramparts of your fortress. Perhaps with those words from Suetonius, suitably modified: Ave Aquila, morituri te salutant. (Been reading too much Roman stuff, I know),
