I'm buying a sign. gold suit from JAB.
They only come with double reverse pleats.

Should I cuff?

Do cuffs really make you look short? or is this just BS advice to tall people, and BS advice to short people to avoid?

One vote for cuffs . . .

Cuffs add a bit of weight to the hem of trousers, which helps the drape of pleated trousers. Unless you're very short and commensurately hefty, the small horizontals of cuffs will not adversely affect you (indeed, if you are that short and fat, you should not be buying pleated trousers, IMHO).

I am tall and slim and never wear cuffs or pleats ....

this works for me as I wear slim fit suits. For more bulky individuals, pleats and cuffs work well. So I would say it depends on your build and the cut of the clothes you like.

Get cuffs. Cuffs do not make you look short. If your legs are particularly short, you can reduce the depth of the cuff to compensate. Say, going down from 1 5/8 or 1 1/2 to 1 1/4 or 1 1/8. (And yes critics, 1/8ths do matter on a cuff.)

Incorrecly sized cuffs look out of proportion; not that cuffs themselves "make you look short."

My general rule is cuffs for pleated pants and no cuffs for flat fronts. YMMV. Cuff size depends on how tall you are. If you have short legs you might not want cuffs that are too large.

Try both and see what you think. Seems like every person on the board has a different opinion about pleats and cuffs, when to mix, or if they should even be used. If you think it looks good, go with it.

I always wear cuffed dress pants, They do drape better, and IMO it looks much nicer. I never like the look on men wearing a pants with no cuffs! Would be interesting to get a vote on this...

On the rare occasion that I've not had pleated pants cuffed I've regretted it. It just looks and feels wrong to me and makes me feel oogie.

Always cuff. If you get it back, try it on, and do not like the results, you can always go to no cuffs. If you start out plain, it is very difficult for even seasoned tailors to put a cuff on.

Generally now I prefer cuffs, whether OTR or put on by tailoring, except, of course, for evening wear. I do think that cuffless casual pants are practical, because there's less chance of getting hung up on something if you are doing a task where that is possible. Also, nowhere for chuffed-up dirt to reside that needs to be knocked out afterwards.

To my eye, cuffs do tend to negate height, or leg length rather, but I think that is so minor that I wouldn't say to use that criterion unless one is very short. One thing that is off-putting to me, whether with cuffs or not, is the tendency for men to have a puddle of fabric around the ankles. It looks sloppy to me. A medium break is my choice, and I'm sticking with it:icon_smile_big:

Seems people have mixed reviews about JAB sign gold suits.

I enjoy the look of no cuff pants on suits. My suits are fitted, so the no cuff look appears sleeker. My tailor advises me that the gen rule is
pleats go with cuffs and flat front pants go with no cuffs.

I think slim/fitted suits look great with no cuffs. With a standard cut suit, cuffs look just fine.
