This is the first really good magazine I've seen for a while. The first Men's Vogue was good (the second however was disappointing).

Menswear (a Fairchild Publication) should be on the news stands now. I got one since I subscribe to DNR (a men's retail trade publication).

The issue reminds of some of the "old" Esquires and GQs in that they're actually making an effort to educate the reader not just sell him on the "latest" style.

Is this the issue with the article on Naples and how a suit should perfectly fit? My local Saks included a free issue in a goodie bag given out at a trunk show event last week.

I agree. Great magazine. Too bad it only comes out quarterly.

You mean the ones from the 1920's when you were in college?

Do you remember the Fairchild "M" magagize from the late 80's til about '91? There was a thread about it on the trad forum a few weeks ago. More of an upscale men's "lifestyle" mag with clothing in the back pages. Is this similar?

To answer Joe's question, this is a quarterly (?) publication that has been around a while -- or longer. It is very hard to find though. I look for it every time I go into my local Barnes & Noble and find it maybe twice a year. The content is almost always better than the cover of the magazine. It also has an "Ask Alan" Flusser column.

I've been getting Menswear Quarterly for the last couple of years, sometimes the combos are garish, but at least 1/3 is devoted to quality, with some application articles, and nicely done interviews with top designers. However, there is still alot of play to the fashionista. Only place where I've seen 2 Vass shoes on display in two seperate issues. Even Flusser contributes, although he manily just repeats what is in "Dressing Da Man"

Constantly Improving my Sartorial Style
-Costly thy habit as thy purse can buy, But not expressed fancy; rich, not gaudy; For the apparel oft proclaims the man.

Young Man:

When I was in college they didn't have magazines yet. Everything was on stone, but since there was less to learn, it only took 6 months to graduate! And I had to walk 30 miles in 6 ft of snow, even in summer, to school - BOTH ways.

Don't miss the next one! There's a free subscription at:

Ignore that page and click on "new subscription"(on the left), which takes you to:

One of the questions is: How did you find out about this subscription offer? (but I don't think there is a right answer.

Is my black bearskin suitable for business?
Can I wear my brown bearskin in the city?
Fortunately there were no waiters in those days, so you could have worn black pants... if there had been pants, that is.

You know, these 'free subscription' sites puzzle me. Over time, I must have ordered three different magazines that way and I have yet to recieve one. I 'ordered' the Menswear magazine about a month ago and still no word. Of course, this sort of thing takes time and I honestly believe that if they were to really deliver this, it would take around a month or more. But I have the funny feeling that I won't be recieving this any time soon or ever.

Harsh, but not necessarily inaccurate.

I still have some of those "M" issues. Great publication!

Yes, good article on cotton!!

Andy
Loved "M" back in those days, but lets face it, it was aimed at a rather narrow demographic: white (mostly) males living in 10021, with some diposable income. Well maybe a little 10028 and 22. Hard to have a mag thats a going concern without domewhat broader appeal. I was fringe player, 10017 at the time, but my crib was pre-war.
Cheers,

PS: 10021 and disposable income, largely redundant.

Ditto! Anyone care to help out a poor starving soldier with an issue you're through with? [:I]
