Do you frequently wear a well-tailored, long-sleeve polo shirt?

Here is an article regarding the long-sleeve polo:

https://www.fashionbeans.com/2014/ways-to-wear-the-long-sleeve-polo-shirt/

In this article, Alex Woodhall states that:

"The long sleeve polo shirt is an item that is never out of fashion, just more out of favour. There are periods where it's considered a legitimate wardrobe essential, but then it quickly fades from vogue again.

In this respect it's similar to the likes of the denim jacket and the Fair Isle knit - each of these pieces enjoys their ups and downs but are always in the picture, sartorially speaking.

Often underestimated, as a cold-weather and transitional tool the long-sleeved polo scores highly and it can be worked into your outfits in a number of ways. From a simple base layer to a knitwear replacement, today we showcase five distinct styling approaches, all of which exude a sense of timelessness."

Thanks,

Chris

I've a couple long sleeved knit polo shirts, purchased from Brooks Brothers and rarely worn. Looking at the pics included in the article referenced in the OP, provides the most likely answer to why I have not worn them more frequently...it is a design intended for younger, thinner generations! :(

Useful with sports jackets because the sleeve will show.

I don't own any, but chances are I will own one before owning a denim jacket...
I wore the latter in the late 1970s... with bell bottom jeans and a 'chic' bandanna... a truly laughable look...

When you guys mention Rugby shirts, are we talking about the oversized rugby shirts with padding and some number sewn on the front?

If otherwise, I’m not quite grasping the quasi artsy nature of a long sleeve polo shirt? I’d love to hear this explained.

I like them at times when I would wear a ss polo, but it is a bit too cool to be comfortable. SWMBO likes them -- commented that she would like some of her own. Sadly BB doesn't sell a women's version. (That's where mine came from.)

I do and if I had my way they're all I'd wear, but the weather and an accumulation of too much other stuff means I can't go 100%. I don't think they should be expensive, though.

I don't know how rugby shirts got into this thread, though... completely different animal.

I can't speak for At Law but my rugby shirts are made by Barbarian and look like this.

No numbers and no padding other than being 12 oz cotton. Quite comfy on on a crisp autumn or spring day.
Thanks. I think I'll stick with the long sleeve polo.

No offense but rugby shirts are best for the Bro crowd. Too fussy for me.

I have quite a few and find them great for winter golf, casual dining in winter, or summer evenings (I always wear a long sleeve shirt at night unless it's very, very casual!).

Polo/RL and Tommy Bahama make high quality reasonable priced shirts.
Does anyone else always wear a long-sleeve shirt at night, except for very casual engagements, even in the summertime?

I'll wear linen. If need be, a single turn back on the cuff.

Chicago summers are not the worst. We have periods of high heat and humidity, but for the most part the evenings are mild. This is especially true closer to the lakefront. Wearing a long sleeve shirt and sport coat or blazer is fine.
