Proud, no, truthful, yes. Every senior citizen I know or have known (and I know and have known plenty) would take the same offense to the G word that black people take to the N word. Every English person I have known would also take the same offense to the L word that black people take to the N word.

I’ll admit, I haven’t known a lot of English people in my life. But I’ve known enough of them that I know how they react to English slurs. And it’s not pleasant.
This is an interesting discussion about which word—the N-word, the L-word, or the G-word (not to be confused with the G-spot)—packs the most pejorative punch. For anyone interested in language, the debate could be a lively and fascinating one……
