Is it a recent trend for the mainstream press to provide insights into the world of personal tailoring?

These articles seem to be growing in frequency over the last 2-3 years.

What do you think?
I think it's a general trend that luxury items are getting more exposure...my theory is that it's linked to having an increased number of people able to afford such items (to wit, the thousands of millionaires made during the Internet bubble, etc)...

It may reflect growing dissatisfaction with the quality and value of RTW suits that are available on the British high streets. A friend, who works in Washington DC, was appalled when he went shopping here last week.

Increasing number of 'premium' consumers...

Dissatisfaction with RTW...

Brilliant points!

Now you would insure a 45k suit, wouldn't you! :icon_smile_wink:
I would want to...If I could afford one. Of course if it was a similar expenditure (proportionate to income) as the suits I purchase today, perhaps not...

I had an interesting conversation with my tailor on Savile Row, earlier this week.

He advised that 95% of his clients purchase MTM. Yet he would be sure that over 75% could easily afford full bespoke suits.

The reason for the aversion to 'over-investing'? Simply that there is not considered to be any need for such extravagance.

Who needs a 45k suit...?

My post was a comment on why personal tailoring seems to be getting more attention in the media. Several friends have abandoned RTW and moved to MTM. Bespoke, especially on the Row, remains too expensive for most. BTW, I would not spend £45k on a suit even if I could afford it.
