Hi Gents,

I have an interview tomorrow. It is my second and final interview in the application process. During my first interview, the interviewer wore dark grey flannel pants, blue sports coat, and a tie. I wore a dark navy two piece suit with subtle pin stripes and a tie.

For my second interview, the initial interviewer will be present, along with a few of his colleagues. I don't want to wear the same suit. I have three suit options:

1. Dark grey sharkskin two piece
2. Light grey nail head two piece
3. Dark grey flannel, subtle pins, three piece

Unfortunately my solid navy two piece suit has too much wear and tear for this interview.

Please let me know which suit you think would be best. The potential job is with an arts organization but from what I can tell jacket/tie is pretty standard.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

-Chris

Grey flannel, I'd skip the vest.

Nothing really wrong with the others, this is likely just the most conservative, and flannel and Boston are like peas and carrots.

The position is as a symphony musician, yes? If so, or anything related, I think this choice shows proper respect for the institution and the interviewers. Though I'm sure they're far more focused on your attributes. ;)

Thanks Flanderian! Great advice, much appreciated.

Ah, if only! It's for an administrative position with an arts organization. I'll spill the beans after they finalize the hiring process :)

I agree with everyone else: the dark grey flannel.

The dark grey sharkskin will be great after you have the job. The light grey nailhead will be just the ticket when you go into the studio to record "In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning" (fedora, white buttondown shirt, and black knit tie required).

Haha! :D

Ok, it's decided, dark grey flannel, no vest.

Thanks guys!

I'll assume the interview will be indoors. I just hope the room temperature will permit the comfortable wearing of flannel.

Otherwise, the light gray would be a nice option.
This is a good point. I think we'll be walking around a bit in areas where it is drafty, so I think flannel will be comfortable. If we're in the same interview afterwards, I should be fine.

Hopefully I won't break a flop sweat!!!

Gents,

Good news to share, I landed the job. It is an administrative position with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. I am thrilled to be a part of the BSO and am looking forward to this next chapter in my life.

Thanks to everyone - I am so grateful for the support of the community here at AAAC. Have a wonderful weekend :)

Outstanding news, congrats. But in all truth, I’d bet your merits out trumped your wardrobe in terms of their selection. Good luck with the new gig.

Coincidentally I’ve also accepted a new position (management consulting). My wardrobe choice for the interview (video) was very standard conservative; I’m looking forward to seeing what the workplace dress codes fleshes out.
