If you are considering buying a suit and the collar doesn't fit correctly, do not buy that suit, no matter what kind of "deal" you might be getting. In order to correct a collar stance, a tailor basically has to take the top of the garment apart and start over. Move on to another suit that fits better.

If you are considering accepting a gift and don't want to hurt the donor's feelings, you're in for trouble. You can't take it and then give it away, as the donor will want to see you in it sometime and will ask about it if they don't. In that case, it might be worth the considerable amount to reconstruct the collar, as there was no outlay in the first place.

If you bought it, take it back and either exchange it or have them make it right, especially if it was MTM or bespoke. Not likely the latter, but could happen with the former. They have to make it right for you.
