Suit By Davide Cenci

Hi all, I was wondering whether I can get some advice about a suit i've seen on ebay by Davide Cenci. The Cloth is Zegna, but I have never heard of Mr. Cenci.

I've done a search on this site and there are many references to him, but i'd like to know quickly (if I may presume) what's the concensus on his clothing.

I can provide a link to the listing (if required), but i'm simply after some advice on whether it's a "good" thing to purchase one of his suits.

The suit on eBay is going for £120 (approx $248) and I've purchased from this Seller before, so it's been worn only a handful of times. Is that a good price?

Many thanks

Clint

Davide Cenci is a store in Milan, Rome and New York. In Italy, it's sort of a mini department store (I don't know what the English comparison would be, but in it's similar to New York's Paul Stuart). In New York, it's a somewhat smaller haberdashery that carries the same things. Their suits have been made by multiple companies, including St. Andrews and Belvest. On these boards, it's considered a very solid company that sells honest good clothing at a very fair price.

$248 seems a fine price if it's in mint condition and it fits you well (or you can return it).

Thank you both. Please forgive me ignorance but if provide the link would you please let me know whether Zegna actually made the suit as i'm unsure of these things?

Many thanks in advance

Clint
I wouldn't know. Best I can tell you is that Davide is honest and upstanding ... a rare quality in merchants these days.

What the labels tell us are (1) the suit is made of cloth sold by Zegna and (2) that the suit sold at a store operated by David Cenci. It is fair to conjecture that the suit was a house suit for Cenci. It is unlikley that it was made by Zegna for Cenci. The seller is either ignorant or intentionally misleading. In either event, if you like the suit and the measurements work, the price might not be bad, but she has very few sales -- which is a cautionary.

Thank you all. Forgive my newbie questions, but is there anything "wrong" with getting a suit made from Zegna fabrics and does anyone feel that a Zegna branded suit would be any different than this one?

I'm really unsure about this, so please forgive the seemingly silly questions.

Regards

Not silly at all. As you can probably surmise, Zegna makes both fabrics for sale to other companies to use and manufactures their own as well. For example, I have a Pal Zaleri Sartoriale overcoat made of Zegna fabric.

This appears most likely to be a suit made by another company for Cenci out of Zegna fabric. Nothing wrong, though the construction is probably not the same as Zegna's. It could be as high or higher and, as others have intimated, Cenci sells a quality product at a decent price, so you're unlikely to a poorly made suit.

Suit by David Cenci

Zegna was making fabrics before they made suits. Zegna fabrics are very fine. As has been stated earlier, David Cenci is a top notch clothing store, with locations in Milan, Rome and New York. You are looking at a suit made by one of Cenci's suit makers (they include saintandrews, Barbera and others), with fabric from Zegna.

If I liked the suit and it fit me, I would buy without hesitation.

Cenci does not carry inferior merchandise.

Good luck with your purchase!

Thank you, that's just the additional confirmation that I needed.

I'll let you know how I get on. I don't feel brave enough to post pictures up yet, but who knows, maybe one day.

That is an excellent summation of my perception of the situation. I actually thought twice about providing a link, but i've seen other's do it and I thought it was "safe".

Of course, this could simply be the work of an "innocent bystander". However, I can't help smell a rat.

Please understand that I have absolutely no evidence to support any suspicions that I may have. But I wonder....

cenci retail prices

Ive been curious about stopping in on cenci while i walk home lately. Can someone give me a ballpark on their suit pricing.

-- i bought a couple of st andrews slacks and jackets in italy a while back. I was very impressed and would be happy to hear they are making from cenci.
