Hello,

During autumn/winter I often wear peacoat which, according to my significant other, makes me look somewhat smart. Now I'm looking for with jacket with the same "effect". Normally wearing jeans or chinos. I have a trench which has gotten the nod off approval but being long not quite as comfortable eg when biking to work. Thinking about a field jacket but what I have tried so far had not really fit me. Open for any suggestions.

I think OP is looking for a piece of outerwear.
In that vein I can highly recommend the Barbour Ashby, if you're moderately slim/average build. Very nice cut without being too slim, still very comfortable for layering underneath.

How about something along the lines of a car coat? I had one in charcoal, which had a look that was similar to, but more elegant, than a pea coat.
