spray-n-wash/shout safety q

So I was reading the label of various stain spray/gels today, w/ the idea I might pre-treat my shirt collars, and they all said something to the effect of safe w/ colorfast washables but either not to be used w/ silk, khaki or flourescent clothing or not more than a few minutes before washing. Silks I can understand, but khaki, as far as I know, is just tan cotton. And we've learned from Alex I believe that white shirts have some flourescence in them. So am I risking damaging or prematurely aging my shirts by using the stuff? Has anyone had ill effects?

I know there's been many threads on shirt care, but I don't recall this q having come up...

I use the same Shout stuff and it works well. I would be curious to know other members' experience with it. The stuff works great, but I'm sure it' not supposed to take the place of detergent.

I use it sparingly because what it does to the fabric, while surely not positive, is better than collar or wrist stains. I would use it only when there is a visible reason to do so or once every few washes.

I've used it on collars and cuffs for a while witth no ill effects. Cotton ,rayon and linen all seem to be okay. I haven't tried it on silk- but those usually go to the dry cleaners anyway.

Sometimes the stain doesn't come out as you wanted it too,It leaves a small stain around the fabric.
Howard, have you tried oxyclean for problem stains? I've found it to be pretty much a miracle solution--blood, tomato sauce, even grass stains on jeans. I usually don't use it for regular/general soil removal, like collar ring, since I'm concerned about the long-term effects on the fabric, but when it's a matter of pitch the shirt or get rid of the stain, I'll swear by the stuff.

I used the Shout on my black dress pants and it did a pretty good job taking the stain out.
