An amusing article. A flawed and dishonest premise, however.

My problem with the tan suit was that it didn't go well with his complexion.
Actually, beige suits look good on people with dark complexions like Barack Obama. People with light complexions are the ones that look bad in that color suit.

Brown suits, on the other hand, look bad on people with dark complexions and good on those with light complexions.

I supposed I'm somewhat biased as I'm just not a fan of that particular color (the suit! Not the man, lest I get blasted by someone).

I tried to add a picture of a pasty white complexioned guy, after quoting your post and it combined our two posts. Sorry about that. Now, trying again, trying to make the point that even we pasty white guys can look good (on at least Ok) in a khaki hued suit, I submit this example:

Personally, I think that guy would be much better served in a brown suit, even a light brown. That guy's skin tone is similar to the suit color. That's why I don't think it's a good look on a light complexioned person.

Similarly, a dark complexioned person's skin tone is too similar to brown for that color to look good on those people.

Of course, away from the face only where it's not against bare skin, both beige and brown look good on dark and light complexioned people.

I didn't really mind the suit color (although I was "meh" about the cut, thought it was kinda boring). I do remember laughing at DC being up in arms over the marked deviation from the "blue suit, white shirt, red tie (long), American flag pin" that has been long been the uniform of politicos from both sides of the aisle.

That guy, case you didn't know, is ex Air Force capitán extraordinare @eagle2250. And he looks really good.
To my eye, Eagle looks better in that color than does Barack. Just my opinion.
Thanks to both of you gentlemen for those generously kind assessments. However, Peak and Pine, my friend, what did I do? You have demoted me several grades...does that mean I should expect a reduction in my retirement checks? LOL. :(;)

I like tan suits. I think they look great on Fmr. President Obama and on Eagle. I also believe that people who wear suits in the summer in DC or Florida need to have poplin in their rotation. Lighter colors are a bonus. I am not a fan of brown suits. For me they conjure up images of Texas land men half a century ago.

I don’t fault Oldsarge. I fault the author.

He used the premise of tan suit to sneak in a political jab.

Popular culture, of which the news is a branch, has become totalitarian in its approach. Everything is viewed and considered in the context of politics.

Au contraire! On the Trad forum everything other than wonderful photos of red meat is viewed and considered in the context of cuff depth, trouser break, collar roll, gorge height, madder, surcingle, and shell!

I think the tan suit was fine on Obama. The whole kerfuffle was mostly our talking heads trying to fill a 24 hour news cycle when there was little if anything of importance to say. That it took on the life that it did says a lot more about our political classes than it does about Obama or the suit. (Conservatives might remember that Ronald Reagan wore dreaded brown suits at times.)

This was silly.

I also think that our Eagle looks fine in his tan suits. I give little credence to the people who worry about being "summers" or "winters". (I cringe to think at how people would have ridiculed this and other metrosexual nonsense back when the suits and ties we reminisce about were popular.)

Yes, some people look better in some colors than others, but I cringe at how far some people take this concept. As far as I'm concerned, Eagle looks fine in his suit.

(As a bonus, Eagle's Forum ID gives a strong hint about what his actual rank was!)

I actually think Reagans brown suit looked better than that tan suit on Obama.

I guess I just don't like tan suits.

I liked the suit, but that tie with that suit? I would have gone with something darker with more contrast. Then again I've yet to be elected as leader of the free world.
"Leader of the free world"? Does the entire world vote for the chief executive of the United States? Is this the description of the position in the U.S. Constitution?

Maybe we should evaluate chief executives by the requirements of Article II of the Constitution, not by grossly overblown and inaccurate job descriptions, or by their attire...
