Is it acceptable to wear white ankle or low cut socks with black Doc Martens Shoes? Or these?

If so, when?
If not, what type of socks would be appropriate? I don't really want to wear nylon dress socks with them--they get too hot.

I wear bright stripey socks with my Doc's. I have about 7 pairs of doc's and they look good with all of them, and they are all colores.
