Shoelaces

So, I bought a pair of Crockett and Jones Weymouths, which are truly lovely shoes, but the shoelaces have started fraying after only 4 or 5 wearings. I realize that the leather on these shoes is quite stiff and sharp but I am surprised that this would happen so quickly.

So, my real question is: are there any recommended brands or types of shoelaces? Waxed or plain? Leather? String? Etc?

Any opinions or is this the dumbest question yet?
