I'm think about getting another pair of shoes that would go with a sportcoat or blazer and tie. Most of my odd trousers are either grey flannels or khakis. What I have now are dark brown Alden plaintoe bluchers and burgundy penny loafers.

I was thing about AE Wilberts. They look good with the khakis, but I'm concerned that they might be too casual to go with grey flannels:

My other idea was brown wingtip bluchers.

Any tradly thoughts?

These are too casual for gray flannels (maybe if you have to wear such an outfit in extremely wet weather) - but perfect for khakis. Very good casual shoe.

Wingtip bluchers are better for sport coat/blazer/flannel combo.

Having both the AE Wilberts and several pair of Wingtips to choose from, I would go with the wingtip butchers, to accompany "grey flannels".

Thanks for the guidance. It sounds like my instinct was correct. Maybe I'll hold off on the Wilberts until the weather's better and I wear khakis more often.

Now, on the wingtips, I like the design of these Loake 1880 Chesters, but I'm a little iffy on the color:

I saw many similar shoes on Pediwear, but the darker colored ones tended to have either the pebble grain finish or the full commando soles, both of which I find a bit too much.

I agree that the Wilbert is a nice shoe for khakis, but that it wouldn't be appropriate for gray flannels. I don't have any personal experience with Loake, but my understanding is that the quality of leather isn't that great--even at their top line.

The A-E Fairfax isn't a horrible-looking shoe, in my opinion, but I'm not sure if you'd get much mileage out of it for khakis/flannels. This is a photo I took of mine a couple years ago:

My recommendation would be a suede tassel loafer. It will take you from khakis to flannels and back again.

My personal preference (prejudice?) is for oxblood or cordovan #8 color vs. garden-variety brown.

Thanks for all of your advice. I'm not sure what to make of the AE Fairfax; I'm really not sure that it's me. Even though I've often considered tassel loafers, right now my weeguns suffice to the extent that I'm inclined to wear slip-ons. Not a fan of the look of long-wings, but I've always been intrigued by the monk straps. They remind me of those jodhpur boots will the strap and buckle.

I've bought three pairs of shoes this year and wasn't budgeted for another, but I ended up with several gifts of cash for Christmas and birthday. Even though they were a little more than what I was hoping to spend, I settled on the AE Hinsdale, but then couldn't find them on sale in my size. I might still get them, or I might go for some plain toe monk straps, but now I'm having second thoughts about spending the gift money on shoes.

The AE store said they could get the Hinsdales I wanted, but it will take a few weeks.

I also looked around a bit at lunchtime yesterday, and found some AE monkstraps with a single buckle and plain toe at Altman's. I didn't get the name of the model, but I'm guessing they're an older one, since I havr't run across it online. Altman's had black on display, and I didn't ask if they had a brown.

My next pair of shoes will probably be brown medallion cap-toe bals, but after that, I'll look into the monkstraps.
