Hi everyone,

I have a light grey suit that I originally paired with a white striped shirt & red tie like this
Outerwear Comfort Dress Textile Sleeve

I think it looks nice with this lilac shirt

but am wondering if the blue in the tie (blue with lilac/pink dots) clashes with the grey.

If I go white & red tie I'd probably pair it with these oxblood Paul Evans chukkas. I'm not sure the oxblood goes with the lilac, though. Alternatives would be brown whole cuts or burgundy oxfords.

Any thoughts on these various combinations?

Thanks!

Those are both excellent combinations. Many here will advise against wearing chukkas with a suit though, due to a clash in level of formality. I'm not one of them as I do it quite often and the right chukka boot can look amazing with a suit. The oxblood ones you've linked to would work very well in my opinion.

White shirt with navy grid pattern and navy grenadine tie. (All my grenadines are from Paul Winston at Chipp.)

Same shirt with repp stripe tie,....Tie has to have some navy in it.

White stripe shirt with any one of a number of blue hues and navy grenadine.

A light to medium grey suit, especially a solid grey, leaves you with countless combinations.

Good luck and best regards,

Just an fyi, I think that suit is medium, not light, grey (and leaning darker not lighter). That said, your two combos look great to me and highlight the wonderful versatility of a grey suit.

While I avoid chukkas with suits (and I love chukkas), the ones you chose are about the most-dressy looking chukkas I've ever seen. Hence, since - let's be honest - we live in a brave new world of hoodies at work and sneakers with suits, I'd say those chukkas would be okay with the suit.

Most anything should be nice as long as the shirt and tie work well together. A lot depends on your event. With a white shirt and conservative tie, it can be great for a job interview or a social event. Other shirts and ties can make it more colorful and/or less formal.

Perhaps it's the lighting or my monitor, but I'm not crazy about the first combo. I don't care for the shirt or the tie.

To me, light gray is something evocative of Spring and pairs so much better with light and airy colors. For that reason I like the lilac shirt. I think a navy grenadine tie would look good as well.

A plain white shirt will give you so much more flexibility in terms of ties. You could go with a floral pattern or paisley and not worry about clashing with the shirt.

Just my two cents.
