Obviously the classic is the #8 or whatever - burgundy in color, that shows the natural grain of the leather, and gets better and better with age.

But: What about the other colors? Presumably, the other lighter browns do pretty well. What about the new(ish) "cigar shell" cordovan - it looks pretty solid brown in pictures I've seen, and like it wouldn't necessarily show age well. Anybody been wearing theirs enough to comment?

Also, what about black? Is there really much reason not to simply go with (the much less expensive) calf-skin offerings in black?

thoughts?

PS - yes I know there was once a topic on the merits of black cordovan, but I could not find it using either the internal search or the google trick mentioned in another thread, so I'm posing the question again, and adding in other colors...
