As I watch the Oz$ go into free fall against the US$ (thank god Tasmanian Pino Noir is a domestic product) and having discounted Brooks Brothers ties due to international shipping costs and the state of the Oz$ in terms of value for money. I have to ask Sam Hober?

I have heard them mentioned a fair bit on the forum as being a quality tie, I went into Civic the other afternoon to two mens stores and the prices stated at around $160! Mind you, at the same stores I have picked up some very nice ties for around $60 on sale but the next sale isn't till Christmas. I have about 10 at present, an eclectic assortment of pattens and styles but still I feel somewhat underdressed.(my wife doesn't understand) I am thinking of getting at least 7 to 10. I

I need some advice on quality, range of styles and price?

What do you think of Sam Hober? Or if not Sam what recommendations would forum members make?

Two to three ties per suit is the rule I use (okay sometimes four or five).

Sam Hober is highly respected, I'm waiting on my first. He is gearing up production to match the flood of orders he is getting, so there may be a lag in catching up to your order.

  • I like their ties. The quality, craftsmanship and selection is excellent. They will even cut your ties to dimensions you request.
  • The only con is that it scan take a very long time (2+months) to deliver your order. But it's worth the wait IMHO.

Sam Hober's Ties are top notch, as is their service. Actually desperately waiting for post office to open, because I have an unexpected package waiting for me, and all it says is that it's from Thailand. Can only think of one person it could have come from, and can't wait to get my hands on it. :)

I ordered 2 grenandines on April 8th and am still awaiting arrival. That's 17 weeks. I really don't mind as I teach and won't need them until September. It even worked to my advantage as I eventually decided about 15 weeks after my original order I liked a slightly narrower tie and let Dave Hober know. My tie production had not begun yet, so the revision wasn't a problem. While it's a heckuva wait, I did get to choose the exact color and dimensions of my tie.

I'm interested in eventually getting a Hober tie. In my quest for a '50s/'60s shape in my choosing of patterns, colours, and tipping a few members here have pointed me to him saying he's worth the money (I hope so, since I'm a student!).

Does anyone have any pictures of what they have gotten from him?

Dont have pictures but after reading the replies to initial inquiry I am ordering a Loyola striped tie and the English dot silk tie N18 and I think that they might be the first of many.

Thanks for the advice.

Sorry that I don't have a digital camera, but if you write to David he will send samples of the silks that interest you. It is hard for me to determine the exact color of some of the dark shades. I don't know if that is because I have an old monitor and an even older video card or is just the nature of the technology.

Order a tie now and you will have it by the time you graduate. j/k - If Hober ties were not so nice there would not be such a long wait.

Cheers, Jim.

Popularity is not always indicative of quality (see: Nike, the once quality store known as Abercrombie & Fitch, Crocs, Ugg) but in the case of knowledgeable people who share my passion for dressing well, I think you have a point. :)

Thanks!

I own about 10 Sam Hober ties. All are outstanding !!! Superb !!! Also, David Hober responds promptly to all e-mails. And I didn't find the wait time to be excessive, since they are made and shipped from Thailand as well as a sometime different holiday schedule than the USA.

I just added up the number of Hober ties I have and it stands at 86, with 4 more on the way. I had no idea I had purchased that many over the past year and a half. Other than Hobers, I have some Tom Ford and a few others with patterns I like. By far and away, David's ties are the best ties you can buy, and the price is more than fair. Whenever I find myself buying a non-Hober tie, I can't help but say, "damn, for the same money I could have had another Hober or two." The only reason I buy any other ties is if they happen to be a pattern that David doesn't carry.

Even if you have to save up to buy them, buy Hober ties. Once you have them, you won't be sorry.

In fact, I'll tell you what OP, send me a PM with your name and address and if the size of my Hober ties fit you (usually 3.75" x 60"), I will send you one of my them for free. I get to choose which one, but give me a couple of color choices. I will even pay for the shipping.
