Ridiculously Overdressed

11395 Views 95 Replies 34 Participants Last post by  Shaver
Some women who work in the same building as I were discussing personal styles of dress. One of them told me my style was to be ridiculously overdressed.

I hope your day is going as well...

I believe the exchanges above relating to the word “soy” as being racially offensive prove the overall tone of this thread.

Too many people stand ready to be offended by anything and anyone. Made up racial insensitivity is just as good an excuse as a well dressed gentleman.

By the way, referencing the definitive guide for modern language and it's application, Urban Dictionary, Soy Boy is defined as such:

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Soy Boy

No mention of racial insensitivity.

Pretty much sums it up.

Also I was using the term to describe guys who can't "man up" and dress like adults. Hardly the audience here, I would think.

As one who has been admonished for using insensitive language recently, I defend the right of any adversaries that disagree with me to post their responses, I well may be deserving of their wrath as they may be of mine.I do not wish their voice be silenced.

Now we have the same speech police construing anything that they think, without fact, that may be deemed offensive?

To elevate a lowly bean, in context as understood by most here, to a racial slur is beyond comprehension.

What next?

As a member of this community who has perhaps been admonished more than most (amongst those still permitted to contribute, at least!) I would note that the moderation of a disparate, oft opinionated, culturally heterogeneous, and occasionally rowdy, bunch such as we enjoy the company of here on AAAC is not always such a straightforward task.

Indeed, however, Can we see a time when we, or others, may be banned for lack of judicious application. It becomes a slippery slope.

My friend, as I understand it, permanent suspension is normally resultant of a lack of cooperation in the aftermath rather than a consequence of the original offence. The moderators here are reasonable men.

Except eagle. ;)

Are you kidding? I find eagle to one of the fairest of moderators. :)..... All in, I believe most members on here are of the most erudite and well informed, yourself included, in all matters. I am often sincerely humbled.

I am, of course, kidding - I very much admire our esteemed eagle.

Cheers good Sir.
The best thing about AAAC is how it teaches me knew things. I had heard of soy sauce, but never soy-boys. Racial slur!?!? I had to learn more!

Hmm . . . . not as it seems defined. To succinctly paraphrase what I found, it means being possessed of inadequate machismo!

Ah, now I understand!

No soy-boys here!

I don't know a soy boy from soy sauce, but in the interest of helping folks remain in the forum's good graces.....

Well played sir.
"Soy sauce", a welcome umami ingredient in my stir fry dishes.
"Soy boy", one who has been quite adequately described in this thread.
Now, if you gentlemen will excuse me, I may have just soiled my "Depends " brought on by stern chastisement. Just me being my immature, lack of control childish self. I apologize. Yeah!!!!!! I don't think so.

You have the unique skill of making insensitive statements in a humorous fashion, leading to most of us most likely just being amuaed at your shenanigans.
