Hi friends,

I located a couple of older threads regarding jacket relining, however I have a couple of more specific questions not covered.

I have purchased a new casual suede jacket which is great, aside from the lining. It has an insulated lining that makes it too warm for the seasons and settings I’d like to wear it in. My questions are:

1. Would the cost of replacing lining in a suede jacket differ from the cost of doing it with a wool/cotton tailored jacket for any reason? For what I paid for the jacket, I’d be willing to invest a bit in relining it vs returning it.

2. Is it a big deal to change from an insulated lining to a plain satin lining? Are there potential problems with doing this? This was an online purchase that made no mention of a winter weather lining and really makes no sense considering the jacket style.

As always, thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

Sorry, I have no idea concerning cost. I suspect both the cost and difficulty might be dependent upon how it's constructed and secured to the shell of the jacket.

But I would suspect that one thing you'll encounter in the switch is that the jacket will fit more loosely. Insulation takes up some room, and sometimes quite a bit.

You can absolutely have the jacket relined by a competent tailor. FYI, if the current lining is thick, going with a thinner cotton/silk or wool tartan will certainly impact the fitting of the jacket...it will be larger...

The lining isn’t overly thick and it’s a pretty slim fitting jacket anyway. My thoughts are this would give me the option to add a light sweater underneath or go without and wear it as a spring jacket.

Well, there you have it then. Sounds like you have a solution. Pics of the jacket??
