I'm sure I've read somewhere that the original cummerbunds were just a big silk sash that you tied all the way round your waist, and they date back to the British Raj.

Is this true and if so, can you still get these 'real' cummerbunds, as the modern clip on ones have always seemed a bit 'faux' to me.
