Hello all,I hope someone can help me with this,I have a pair of custom grade semi brogues, brown, sole says 65 which is 6.5.
Now I am size 6.5 or 39.5 and they are an inch too big for me! They measure 29 cms along sole.what size are they actually?
Many thanks.

It sounds like these shoes may have an elongated toe. Shoes of different lengths can fit feet of different sizes. I have never owned any Church's shoes because the sizing doesn't work for my feet. They mostly have very wide shoes, and I have a narrow foot. When I size down, they width is still too wide and the length is too short. You may have the same problem that I have with them.

How did you obtain these shoes, and how long have you been wearing them?

The sizing marked seems about right. It is UK 6.5. Now, some assumptions based on your descriptions:

1. it is 1 inch too big when you try them
2. the *outsole* is measured 29 cm

1. For this elongated last, having 1" or so space in front of your toes is normal. As long as the shoe fit from heel to your ball (widest area of your foot), anything further away is ok.

2. The outsole should never be used as a measurement for shoe size as different lasts can have different lengths on toes so outsole measurement is not a reliable source to check shoe size.

When trying on a shoe, you are not supposed to fill all the area inside the shoe because your foot is not like the last that the shoe was built with. There should be ample space in front of your toes, yet the heel and ball are nicely enclosed with no slippage. Similarly, the instep (top of foot) should be covered nicely with little to none bulging.

Hope this helps.

Edit: after looking at the picture more carefully I am not so sure it is marked as 6.5 F. It can be 6.0 F as @Fraser Tartan pointed out. I would still think this is the UK size.

Thanks to all that replied, but they simply cannot be 6.5 ! i am that size and they are like boats on me! I even emailed Church who said they were 65 f...do they have very large sizing?
As I said before, they have wide shoes, which can effectively size up a shoe. Their shoes do not work for me because they are so wide, and I am unable to size down for a comfortable fit.

Funny that you try sizing this way. Your shoe laces are untied and throat is open. With that loose, you can shift your foot forward to create this space behind your heel.

Put your heel against the back of the shoe inside and tie the shoelaces properly. Then feel the space around your ankle to see if there is extra space. Furthermore, put on a sock while you do so.

Exactly. It's not fair dealing on the part of the original poster.

Who cares? They don't fit you. Get rid of them. It's not like you paid full price for them in a store (they're clearly heavily used) so you don't have any grounds for an issue with Church's.
