Hi dear fellow tradsters,

First of all, I am not even sure if this is the right place to post this question, but I saw this piece of garment which I fell in love with, and have been unable to find anything even remotely similar to it. Maybe it's because english is not my first language and I don't quite know exactly what to search for, so I was hoping you'd at least tell me what this type of garments would be called?

It's got a very casual, british, baggy, laid-back feel to it, and I think it would be ideal for the late spring / autumn season.

I tried searching for:
- 2 button collared sweater / jumper / puller
- thick cotton rugby rugby / sweater / jumper

without any luck.

I searched Barbours' Pullover section - no luck either.

Here's are two videos where Paul McCartney can be seen wearing it.

At 2:36-2:42 you can see the details on the sleeve cuffs too.

You can see the sweater if you jump to 50 seconds in:

To me it seems like a knitted rugby shirt, no?

What do you call this piece of garment? I have a suspicion that one can be found online if I search in the shops which carry scottish knitted garments.

Thanks a million for taking the time to read through the post, check out the videos and answer my question.

It is a polo-style sweater. Hard to find these days. The one he is wearing looks quite heavy. This is close:

Thanks for the link and for taking the time to help out.

The sweater in the link you posted is close, you're right, but not quite the same. I think it lacks the heft of the one McCartney is wearing, and is significantly more light-weight.

I am afraid you're right when you say they're hard to find these days. I guess I was born in the wrong era :/

P.S.what is the one that Macca is wearing made of do you think? Is it cotton or wool or some cotton/wood blend?

I think it is a polo sweater, in terms of construction, and it is made of thick material either cotton or wool. Rather like the one in this Jos A Banks webpage:

Unfortunately, when I open the link I am met with:

"Thanks for visit our site! Unfortunately, we are not serving your location at this time".

When I do a search online for

"jos bank long sleeve polo sweater" I see quite a few pics, and dont know which of them is the one from the link.

Care to attach the picture from their website?

Yes, I can open the image you posted. Thanks for that.

It's not quite the same, alas. The one you posted wears more like a long sleeve polo shirt, whereas the other one wears more like a sweater.
I think the difference between the two is not truly in style, but simply in the material. If you took the thicker wool or cotton used as sweater material, perhaps woven in a looser mesh weave like the one McCartney is wearing, and used that to make a long sleeve polo shirt, it would become the kind of garment he is wearing.

Perhaps one way to resolve this question is to talk to someone who runs a garment shop where you live. I am sure buyers for that shop will be able to provide some suggestions, and also perhaps to provide a name for McCartney's sweater, if it is in fact different from a long-sleeved polo sweater. Good luck.
