My dislike is that usually (at least for Brooks) they only put the plaid (or other pattern) on the chest and the back and sleeves are left plain. Of those I've bought most have worked their way into giveaways within a year or so.

Just not very practical

A few years ago the mass-marketers like Nautica, Hilfiger had blackwatch pattern crewnecks out that I really liked.
I prefer the ones where the faux warp and weft have some substance as opposed to being skinny lines, but overall plaid sweaters are too busy and geometric. Argyle lacks perpendicularity and is somehow more organic.

Bland but tolerable.
