Had to run through several trial combinations of jacket and shoes to go with my dark dark blue jeans and BB tattersall shirt last night. Also smartwool Argyle socks.
Finally settled on Navy hopsack blazer with tarnished brass buttons, and some ancient Alden black wingtips purchased on ebay. They used to be too big but seem to fit fine now with a thin insert to snug them up. They are soft without a high gloss and so unobtrusive.
Looking in the mirror, I felt my silver belt buckle stood out a bit and am thinking of whether I may get one without shine, either leather covered or tarnished. Suggestions? Anyone else ever feel this way?
Rejected:
-light blue plaid E.Z. jacket, a little too loud
-distressed leather slip on shoes, not dressy enough for any sportcoat
-grey suit jacket as sport coat, cleaning lady liked it a lot but too much contrast with pants in both color and fineness of fabric.
Concert was quite good, mostly attended by old geezers.
irate:
I did look good though, I must say.
