I tend to lean more towards the continental style of shirting with a slimmer fit, spread collars and French plackets. As the weather gets colder, I want to bring some Oxford shirts back into my closet. I have not owned a spread collar OC shirt. Anyone ever had one made? Does it look silly, or can it work?

I have such a shirt, but it’s not quite right. A point collar would work better. For heavy shirts with a spread collar I prefer pinpoint, herringbone or twill. Royal oxford is great too, but it’s not really a cold-weather shirting.
Personally, I like broadcloth and poplin best with a wide spread collar. The best example, hands down, of this collar and fabric I ever saw is on an episode of Power in the final season (season six). The character James Saint Patrick (Omari Hardwick) wears a shirt in this fabric (100 percent cotton) with this collar.
