Hello Chaps,

The Oxford vs Cambridge boat race is this Sunday 29th of March, and oh what a display of sartorial elegance it will be. I am attending a function at one of the boat houses, the dress is "smart-casual" :)crazy:). I doubt anything on the scale of Henley, but nevertheless a chance not to be missed.

I am thinking of:

- White linen jacket with a light blue silk pocket square
- Light cream chinos
- Blue (?) chequered or striped Shirt, open collared (?)
- Light brown suede penny loafers with light-ish blue socks

Tie in pocket for immediate donning should it be necessary, also sunglasses.

Headgear-wise, either a Panama or a Boater?

Open to your suggestions,

Fifeldor

I too am very envious of this event...it sounds like a great time.

The outfit sounds fantastic. Wear it well, and please do share some photos.

Just WEAR the tie, I say.

You can always loosen the knot if the weather is very warm for March. "When in doubt, overdress" -- a very sound policy.

Wearing a dress shirt without a tie isn't casual, it's unfinished. Though one might wear a collarless shirt or striped fisherman's shirt over knitted polo. As I remember Henley, the typical American was dressed down while the typical Brit was dressed up but I think "festive" might be more important than "casual" as operating principle.
