When I was growing up in the late 50s and early 60s, my father told me that light blue shirts were especially popular because they came across as a very nice white on black& white TV -- even nicer that white shirts. Does anyone else have that impression.

I must confess that regardless of B&W tv, I love light blue shirts and wear them at least once a week.

Light blue and other light-coloured shirts go way back before television and before film. They didn't come about because of television. But they look nice in black-and-white because they don't get blown out like white shirts can.

You're father is correct, sir! White shirts on early TV were just too bright so light blue became popular as a solution!
