Has anyone ever seen a jacket cuff sewn this way? Instead of two separate pieces the one has been tucked inside the other. I'm not sure what to make of it.

The only thing that comes to my mind is that the cuffs were originally made for working button holes and then were not?

No it was done by my tailor. The main lady was gone and her mother did it. She's old school Italian, so I wasn't sure what to make of it. I just noticed it today. I've had many jackets done without issue, so this was new.

Tailor, or lady seamstress?

Tailor. They've always done good work on my jackets, trousers, and overcoats. It was so odd I thought maybe this was some old-fashioned way to do a jacket.

Maybe it's the Italian version of a gauntlet cuff!

I think this is just a quick and easy way to shorten the sleeve without re-doing the mitre cut/sewing on the placket. Since the buttons are not functional, why bother to create a functional placket. Keep it simple.
