I went way out of my way to the local Nordstrom to try on a pair of Park Ave. in 11EE. The website informed me that they were "ready for pickup" at my local store. The manager apologized. Nordstrom is not only phasing at AE, according to him, but the site means--- "I can order it for you." Well I can order it myself and then return it to him and save the petrol.

The Nordstrom men’s shoe department certainly takes up a lot of real estate on the floor, yet looking through it is quite disappointing.

Most of it is now dedicated to sneakers. The flagship store still carries Santoni but that’s really about it.

Mine (Beachwood, OH) has a few pairs of AE, a few Ferragamo, some Hugo Boss, and a bunch of Magnanni. I haven't been interested in much of anything they sell for awhile now, shoes or otherwise.

Buy from AE, Nordstrom doesn't deserve a cut of the profit.

Living in "our" AAAC world, I sometime miss what is really happening in the broader "sartorial" culture. But even I can't help noticing what you did - sneakers everywhere.

Several clothing companies are now showing dress trousers, suits and even tuxedos being worn with sneakers. Not my thing - looks off to me - but can't deny that it is happening.

Faster than I thought it would, say, five years ago - suits, ties, etc., seem to be losing position. Yes, you still see them regularly, but their hold on / their requirement for situations / positions / events like business meetings, TV news, politicians, weddings, medical professionals (under their white coats), funerals, etc., seems to be - drum roll please - fading fast.

We're well past that here. It's often weeks between each time I see someone wearing a suit, which wouldn't be at all bad except it's generally also weeks between each time I see someone wearing a jacket and trousers.

Then again, there was that young fellow on the bus today, in a canary yellow suit, ditto tie and a black and yellow checkerboard waistcoat. Oh, and garishly coloured sneakers of course. Certainly one for the books.

I think living and working in NYC has insulated me a bit from the degree of the suit/tie decline overall, but it is still quite noticeable even here.

Interesting that high-volume Walgreens drugstore manages to have accurate real-time inventory data on their site. I recently googled a particular toiletry item and "where to buy." Walgreens popped up, I found the item, clicked on the "check store availability" button and was told the store nearest me had 6 in stock. So before going out of my way and changing my normal commute I had reasonable certainty they would have it, and indeed they did.

Yes, I have no problem with "fashion forward" Italian design shoes, but they seem to have relatively cheap versions on display. They're not trying to sell $600 or $800 shoes.

They should at least go with Bruno Magli if that's the direction. At least some of those shoes are glove like soft.

And the escape who waited on me was wearing jeans and a tee-shirt. Looking back on it. Working in retail in the late 70's through the 80's, I now realize most of us took for granted the great shoes we purchased for a pittance at Hanover, Thom McCan et. al.

Well the man could certainly run fast in the day. LOL. On the ladies shoes Nordstrom is super high-end designer. Choo, Louboutin and others. Obviously on the men's side of the store, the store is not making much money apparently.

The one on Michigan Avenue carries Louboutin for men. Complete with spikes.

Give them a days notice, they can be dipped in ricin.

Pittsburgh isn't Chicago! One of the high end clothiers in Pittsburgh was cited by Oxxford as being a vendor. I checked--they have not a single item. Weird.
