Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a used Eton dress shirt. I got ready to wash it, checked the care tag, and found the following:

"Machine wash warm non iron
Do not tumble dry..."

I was under the impression that drying non-iron shirts helped activate the "non-iron" properties and was necessary to keep the shirt looking fresh and wrinkle free. Every other non-iron shirt I've seen have instructions to machine dry. Has anyone else seen non-iron shirts that are not supposed to be machine dried? Should I throw this shirt in the dryer for a couple minutes to remove any wrinkles from the wash, or should I just hang dry?

Interesting. I've never seen a no-iron shirt marked like that. All of mine say 'tumble dry low' and a few say 'hang immediately'. I'd try the dry-then-hang approach and see what happens. After all, as you say, it was used.

I just line dry all of my shirts.

Unfortunately I am too lazy to do this but I bet you at least double the lifespan of a shirt by line drying.

I find the non iron shirts usually need touch up ironing anyway

Thanks, Sarge. It did look a bit wrinkled out of the wash, so I threw it in the dryer with a few other non-iron shirts. It looked much better after 10 minutes in the dryer!

I also noticed it has non-removable collar stays (the horror!!!) I suppose that could be the reason to avoid tumble drying the shirt. It seems like a nice shirt. I don't know why they would use the built-in collar stays!

Back when I used to wear non-iron shirts, I found this to be the case as well.

I use the dryer for my non iron shirts. My trick with them is a 1 to 2 minutes trip in the dryer on low just prior to wearing. Takes care of whatever wrinkling remains.
