I need help getting rid off a piece of dried chewing gum stuck to the sole of one of my shoes at the heel. Because it is rubber and has indentations the gum has gotten into the nooks and crannies and is now a pain to get out save spending hours with a knife.

I've heard that you can stick it in the freezer to freeze the gum off but I dare not do that for fear it may destroy the shoe's leather in the process!

Any ideas?

In a fair and just world, you would be able to call CSI and have them extract DNA from the chewing gum. They would then track down the person responsible and fine him for littering, and you would then sue him for negligence, recovering enough to either have those shoes cleaned or replaced.

I'd recommend hiring a police officer from Singapore to spend a couple days walking around your town clubbing people who chew gum and throw it on the ground.

Either Singapore or Disney World - they're both virulently anti-gum.
