Neck size Question

40K views 34 replies 17 participants last post by  Gurdon
I have been having problems with the neck size of my dress shirts. When I measure my neck In get an exact measurement of 15.75 to 16 depending on how tight I hold the tape.

Currently, I am wearing a 16 neck 35 sleeve Nordstrom shirt with a traditional cut. The neck fits nice until the shirt shrinks and then it becomes too tight. My oldest one measures 15.6 in the neck, which I guess is max shrinkage.

Based on my neck should I be in a 16.5? Typically how much does the body vary for a 16 vs a 16.5 neck. My chest is a 42.

Thanks your help in advance.
I wouldn't over-think it. If your current size is too small, just buy the next size up. .5" isn't a very large gradient. And if one must choose between a collar that is slightly too large, or slightly too small, the one that is too small will look much poorer, and the other will hardly be noticed as too large. But the kicker is that collars that are too small can be agony to wear, where one slightly large is not.

Any suggestions on brands that sell an exact length sleeve?

Not bad shirts, but they charge too much.

Get an AAAC Corporate discount card (You need 100 posts.) and you get 15% off. A couple times a season they double that, and you get 30%. Brooks has discounts for buying 3. Combine the 30% off with that discount, and you pay about 50% of their full retail per shirt price. Brooks also has sales during the year for 25% off without the corporate discount card.
