I own cotton Nantucket reds and cords in many assorted colours including red. When I am in the English countryside, my cords are standard daily uniform. They look great, wear well, and can be picked up for a reasonable price. Bocklehurst of Bakewell is my preferred maker.

Some commentators seem naturally inclined to spoil others sartorial fun. To hell with them and up with GTH trousers!

Cheers,

BSR

I've had a similar experience with a pair of rust hues cords, with Scottish Terriers embroidered on them. I cannot recall a single time wearing those trousers and not getting one or more favorable comments! ;)

I am fond of all manner of GTH trousers. In the array of such trousers, Nantucket reds seem almost commonplace and sedate. If hipsters are sporting them, I say “Hurrah!” In Austin I also see hipsters sporting embroidered clothing, chiefly shorts. Yay! My love of reds notwithstanding, I am one of those people who does not believe in GTH shirtings or jackets. In defense of Madras jackets, they aren’t GTH to me unless they are patchwork. Still, I’d never wear a Madras jacket with GTH pants. I believe they show to best advantage, as do many things, paired with a navy blazer and a blue OCBD.

Most pictures in those two blogs aren't Nantucket Reds. Many of the outfits, however, deserve to be made fun of. NRs with a brown tweed jacket? Yeesh. Go with rust cords. Most Americans know to put the necessary nautical/summer spin on Reds-based outfits.

I've never been able to bring myself to wear GTH trousers--being extremely tall would make them stand out too much--but I do own a pair of the real McCoy shorts from Murray's Toggery and wear them frequently during the summer. Canvas sailcloth is an interesting fabric.

It's interesting how time can change context; I imagine in a few decades this conversation will revolve around then old-fashioned blaze orange hunting cargos and "don't-fall-off-the-boat" safety yellow rain pants. :)
Do you believe that in a few (three or more) decades people will be discussing Trad clothing or the like?

Men's style is reportedly timeless. Methinks we already are discussing Trad clothing, in copious, occasionally, perhaps even tiresome detail, but do we so in hushed voices and under cover of secret lairs such as the AAAC Trad Forum. Such conversations are not soon to end. LOL. ;)

Still, every time this thread get bumped with new comment, my mind sees an incomplete sentence and I want to know what this fellow, Nantucket Red, has that we need to discuss?!
I know what you mean. I keep thinking the thread is going to be about a bar/restaurant ("Nantucket Red's") that Flanderian discovered while on a short vacation, and he wants to rave about the mimosas and clam chowder.

When I saw you had posted to this thread I fully expected to read "There once was a man from Nantucket..." So get those creative juices flowing!

Believe me, I thought about it, but I wanted to ration what I loosely refer to as my jokes. I opted for the "bar/restaurant" line for no particular reason, then called it a day.

I haven't ruled out a limerick, though.

Two Nantucket-related limericks--and they are clean!

There was a young man from Nantucket
Who said to himself "I'll untuck it.
"Then I'll peel off this shirt
"Which is covered in dirt
"And into the hamper I'll chuck it."

A man plays guitar in Nantucket
He likes to just sit there and pluck it
From his feet to his head
His whole outfit's bright red
As long as he doesn't unplug it
