I seem to have had more opportunity for obtaining evening dress than I did morning dress. I managed to get hold of a morning suit the other week and I thought I'd try it on. Yes, no doubt there's a heck of a lot wrong with my getup, but I thought I'd post pictures anyway. Shirt is blue TW Lewin with white collar and cuffs, cufflinks are white mother of pearl. Can't see in these pictures but I'm wearing black polished Oxfords with brown laces. Red and blue striped self-tie bow tie, and black socks. Could do with some gloves, and the top hat is actually a black wool one which I know is inappropriate but it's the only one I've got.

I do have everything for full morning dress except for a black/charcoal grey morning coat at the moment.

Please be as brutal as you like, just make it constructive please.

Jeez Louise, I feel so under dressed sitting here before my keyboard in my 'shorty jamas' and terry cloth bath robe. Oh-well, it's just me and the wife in our self imposed social isolation. Who's going to notice? LOL. ;)

There may be some details, but the general impression is quite favorable. For what upcoming event will you be wearing this?

@Orsini; when I renew my vows.

I think as regards top hats, a grey one with black band seems to go well with black (full) morning dress, as does a black silk one (or at least a close approximation). The one I have is black wool; which according to all the research I've done, is technically only appropriate for funerals (as are black leather gloves, black waistcoats-though I would question this one-and black ties). But it's the only one I have at the moment.

I'm not a fan of pocket squares hence the reason I'm not wearing one ; though I carry a hanky in my top pocket for practical reasons (usually my daughter's runny nose), but you might see the odd bit of hanky popping out. (I just don't like the look), I quite like HRH's use of a bouttoniere in that picture.

Very nice to hear that. Good luck to you.

The hat looks fine to me.

To me, the bowtie looks off. I'd do a long tie with a simple pattern, such as pindots, or no pattern at all. Also, I'm not sure if it's the lighting, but the shirt and the suit don't seem to complement each other too well in terms of colors. Perhaps try on a plain white shirt to see how that looks?

I've never worn morning dress, but my impression is that, just like dinner wear, less is more.
