Hi all,

I bought a pair of factory seconds AE St. John's black monk for $245 last week. When I put them on, the toe is slightly more chiseled than I prefer but not insurmountable. Also, they just went down to $199 for the holiday sale. Dangit!

I poked around a bit more and came across these BB Golden Fleece monks with a more conservative toe/last. They are $450 with an extra 10% off today for Cyber Monday (even though it's Tuesday ).

Are these comparable in quality? Should I send back the AEs (minus $25 restocking for factory 2nds)? If I keep them, will AE credit me the difference of the holiday price since I just ordered them?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

While fit and comfort are paramount, there are also stylistic preferences.

All things being equal, I would opt for AE, if for no other reason than price. Even with 10% off, I cannot imagine the additional $200 adding anything of value to the BB offering.

The AE are nice, and attractively priced.

I don't have any experience with the new BB "Made in Italy" shoes, but I've Iooked at them in the store and wasn't impressed, especially at the asking price. At that price, I'd look at Carmina.

The AE would have been much better without the medallion. Just seems to me a mismatch on this double monk. However, the GF seem pricey for what is being offered. Given the price difference, I'd probably get the AE.
