Is anyone else having issues with spam pop ups on mobile? It seems like I've been getting redirected to an "Amazon Rewards Center" a lot recently when I try to open threads- wasn't sure if it was just me.

Edit: just happened again-

I've closed and reopened the page repeatedly, but it keeps happening. Kind of making the site unusable for me

Happened to me too. Tapatalk wasnt working so went to mobile browser to change password and kept getting the popup. Somehow I was able to get it through and put new pw in Tapatalk. Those popups are super annoying.

Gents, it's possible one of our ad demand partners (like Adsense) is pushing a full-screen overlay ad from time to time on mobile devices.

Ad revenue is the primary source of income for the site, so we're trying to balance visitor experience with revenue generating activities.

Note: It's not user-error.

I've just visited the site on mobile, and visited several pages without seeing the overlay ad, so I suspect there is some pre-criteria (like visiting Amazon) that must occur before seeing that overlay.

If you prefer not to see any ads, then I'd recommend following the advice from @Shaver.

Other than that, we are contemplating a paid subscription offering, that allows for a 100% ad-free forum experience.

If that is something you find interesting, feel free to post a comment here to let us know.

The full-screen overlay ads are annoying as hell because it's impossible to close the ad and return to AAAC. It necessitates completely closing the window. This, IMO, destroys the visitor experience. It comes across as a phishing attack.

I don't mind the ads or videos on the page because they're relatively unobtrusive. Of course, there's also costs associated with running this site. But if I have to pay to block the overlay ads, my remaining time here is very limited.

Agreed. As much as I enjoy this community, I'm not about to start paying for it.

It seems to me that there are plenty of ads already. The presence of these "overlay" ads are incredibly annoying and not something I would even consider clicking on as a result.

Charge if you must, but I'm quite sure that few will actually pay.

Apologies if my last post left the impression that we weren't looking into the issue.

I agree that overlay creates a poor user experience, so we're reporting it to our demand partners.

Installing an ad blocker or using Tapatalk are two immediate workarounds.

Gents, we reported the issue to the most likely demand partner, and got the following response:

"This looks like redirect which we got other complaints for last week which we then tracked and blocked the source. When was the last time you saw this ad? If it's still occurring after the 19th (when we blocked it), then it's a matter of our devs trying to track it down and identify the source."

So, with that, please notify us immediately if you do see this ad again.

We will report it once again, and ensure that pesky overlay ad is blocked moving forward.

Apologies for any inconvenience.
