You really think Miller's pants are baggy? I'm not seeing that at all. It's amazing how the skinny fit fashion world has conditioned people to think anything less than form fitting is baggy. :fool:
No drape - pooling at the ankles. Maybe they are just falling off him but I personally would not wear those pants with that jacket. It just looks a bit disheveled and like an old man. Granted, he is on TV and most of them (announcers) are only are concerned with how they look from the waist up. So we have two old men - one chastised for trying to dress like a young man and in the latter case, me criticizing the other for dressing like an old man (chinos pooling around his ankles with tennis shoe golf shoes). Maybe you're right - at least the old man is dressing like an old man. Not a particularly attractive look in my opinion - I think he looks a lot better dressed old school:

Note appropriate hem, nice drape, CLASSIC golf shoes. I can live with the 70s/80s plaid.

I've got to cut Johnny Miller some slack (hah, unintentional pun unintended!). He's a bit older than Dan Hicks, and for gentlemen of a certain age, as they increase in age and otherwise often decrease in both height and weight, their formerly-fitting clothes no longer fit. I know of very few septuagenarians who regularly return to a tailor to have old clothes taken in. A consequence of life, I guess.

Even for a 25 year old this suit looks like you bought it when you were 16 and have outgrown it. Dan looks to have a decent physique. A longer jacket and a size up on the trousers and the suit would look pretty good. I just don't understand how you could try this suit on and not immediately feel like it's just is too tight - look at the creases in the trousers. Ouch!!
I meant that this suit is cut for the sensibilities of today's 25-year-olds and the older or more sensible people have little choice but to follow what is being marketed to younger men.

To answer seriously though, perhaps part of my authentic self is adaptability instead of hard headedness? Certain things do not change though - I will not wear sneakers professionally, I will always wear a pocket square if no tie, I won't go without a sport coat professionally if no suit, etc.
This ^ is a very interesting thought/point that jives with me. I enjoy wearing classic, proper fitting suits/odd jackets, standard lapel width and gorge, and conservatively cut pants, though at times find an occasion where can have fun and wear wide lapels with flared pants. Or, like the interview with the startup, wear jeans, long sleeve polo shirt, and unstructured sport coat. Could call it situational awareness and appropriateness.

So if best to wear trim, properly fitted (that doesn't worry folks your suddenly will pop out from the force of too tight fitting), especially concerning a public image. I am just not understanding why older men with a trim physique can't show a little. Maybe pre Cold War style suits with a triangular figured jackets and full pants a compromise?

BTW, love those plaid pants, though without a belt and a light blue shirt instead. I remember vaguely (born in '86) seeing plaid on the course, Opa loved to watch golf and since I wanted to be with him, I did too.

I think the issue is really in clothes that don't fit, like the suit in question in this thread. He looks like his pants will split if he tries to bend over.

How is sack suits flattering? I am serious, never heard anyone say they were. Thanks.
You don't even know what a sack suit is, do you?

There are a lot of men that looking dashing in sack suits. In fact most older gentleman swear by the kind of suit. Just go through the pictures. The cut is classic, and I own a few myself.

The simplistic answer to what is, is a straight cut suit with three buttons. It is categorized by a straight back, clean front and straight cut trousers.

How about if you're a tall thin middle aged man? Still no on the skinny suits?
If tailored well, meaning not too tight and not too short, then it can be fairly flattering. Trousers on men shouldn't fit and look like leggings that you might wear at the gym. If for no other reason look at the creases across the pants on the OP picture. I don't see how anyone thinks that looks good.

I wondered what was causing those creases. Is it from pants that are too tight?
It is a horrible look.

The point of the skinny suit is to fit too small. It's about the look of a boy-sized suit on an adult man. It is meant for the jacket to be too short, for the trousers to sit very low and for everything to be tighter than skin tight. No matter who you are, that is not a good look.

We should stop with the skinny or slim fit suit nonsense.

A suit either fits well or it doesn’t. It has more to do with the man’s proportions. A slimmer man will require a suit that is cut and sized differently from a more portly gentleman (assuming OTR of course).

To attempt to squeeze one’s fat ass into too small of a suit looks ridiculous.

A suit either fits or it doesn’t.
