So, you say you'd like to try a Meermin?
So, you say you're afraid to buy shoes online?
So, you say you won't buy a shoe without trying it on?
So, you say you can't buy a shoe withou seeing it in real life?
So, you say you don't want the cost and hassle of returning an ill fitting shoe to Spain?

Well, Meermin says, Hello New York!

Images didn't post.

If this means the nice $245 shoes become $400 shoes, I'm less than enthusiastic.

I can virtually assure you they'll be more. Probably a lot more. :(

Nattering nabobs of negativism. (It’s nice to be addressing gentleman who will remember that phrase.)

It’s my understanding that this is a just a showroom, not a store. You would still have to purchase online. A drastic change in pricing would hurt their niche. At least until they developed a strong enough US market to outweigh disruptions in sales to Japan. Given the wider appreciation of footwear in Japan than the US, that would seem to be a long shot.

Tell ya what I'm gonna do. Remember that? Sort of a blast from the past.

Wouldn’t the belief that prices will rise by large percentages as other companies have done, grant membership in the 4H Club?

One named Spiro!!
True story - at my previous place, one of the big 4, I was training a new intake of about 30 people, age 22 to about 30 and - as I'd experienced this lack of knowledge with another colleague - I asked if they knew who Spiro Agnew was. One 1 person did - who came from Nicaragua. They were astonished to find out who he was and what happened to him.

Not at all surprising. Victims of revisionist history and education.

The only reason I'm a pessimist is that I like to be proved right! :D

I did sales and marketing for 35+ years. There are lots of viewpoints that could exist on behalf of the participants, potential for vastly differing degrees of funding, and levels of skill on behalf of those who will carry out the plans. All of this will interact to determine the strategy and how well it's carried out.

Reflecting on the issue, I think member drlivingston has described the most likely unfolding; similar to what happened with Carmina. But the costs in NYC are high, and other shoe companies have attempted to introduce their brand in that market and not been able to stay the course either because of limited funding or less than astute management.

But the overriding facts are that there's a significant price disparity between what some will pay in the U.S. for some brands, and what the home market will. That coupled with a general prevailing marketing philosophy where well received brands attempt to maximize pricing while reducing the cost of goods sold suggests that they'll "juice" the pricing as soon as they think they can.

Well, if that happens, I can be grateful that I got in while the getting was good. Besides it's hard to imagine them having much to tempt me at this point

I have a feeling that this statement will come back to bite you in the wallet.
At current pricing, I agree. It's an impulse buy for momsdoc at current pricing, like standing in a checkout line and getting a pack of gum. If they go north of $300 USD they're kidding themselves. I can get JFitzpatrick shoes at those prices and the pair of JFitz I have is at least 2 grades better than my Meermins and recently made AEs.

Anybody visit yet? $175-220 shoes are fairly attractive from them and this solves the problem of shipping returns and fitting.

i admit I have never taken the plunge to the spanish makers and stay with US and Northamptom factories.

If they pull a Carmina and gradually jack the hell out of thier prices theyll lose all appeal in my eyes.

I echo the former sentiment, though the latter hasn't hit me yet.
I'd welcome a San Francisco showroom to try 'em on and handle in person, as long as I could still buy 'em online at current prices.

Oh, calling all Nattering Nabobs of Negativism,

It’s been 8 months.
Shoe prices are still $195 and boots $245. Shearling and special leathers a few bucks more.

Shipping is $15 vs $35 and “always free in NY.”. Plus US returns.

So far, so good.
