Marlon Brando Rolex Up for Auction. “The horror! The horror!”

I read an article that said it might break a record for Rolex. Hard to believe that it will top the Newman's Daytona but I guess we shall see.

The appeal is its provenance, I guess.
It's not necessarily an iconic watch or integral to the film.
It's the provenance and little else. The bezel was removed for the film, so it's not even "complete".
Certainly not enough to break a record. Newman's Daytona was iconic and worn by him when racing. Newman is pretty much the reason for the Daytona's popularity. I don't think the same can be said of Brando and the GMT.
Rolex Daytona's are among the ugliest watches out there, in my opinion, and the prices they fetch make me shake my head. Mind you, the argument could be made that all Rolex's are overpriced.

Sold! For just over $1.9 million.
Oh, that's ridiculous. The watch is barely seen in the film (or so I understand) and Brando isn't a household name these days, nor is that film much remembered today.

In other auction news, Princess Di's black dress, which she wore when she danced with John Travolta and Ronnie Raygun at the White House, didn't move at £200G.
