The Interchange is supposed to be a way to discuss issues that don't necessarily pertain to clothing. It will, invariably, contain threads loaded with diverse opinions and ideas that can be discussed and debated. Those who do not wish to engage in doing so are free to ignore the Interchange.

That a recent thread regarding the Ukraine - Russia conflict was suddenly locked without explanation is a disgrace. Perhaps those so quick to offer unsupported yet dogmatic opinions should have the courage to defend them, rather than simply "locking" threads. We need a bit more liberty, and far less totalitarianism in this forum...

I am in complete agreement.

Awhile back when AAAC was having trouble attracting members I recall Andy and Mike polling members who had contacted them. These members were dissatisfied. I recall either Andy or Mike saying that several members thought that AAAC was filled with Eastern Liberals and other opinions were not tolerated.

I recall wondering if management would accept what I think was legitimate criticism.

Perhaps your baseless screed against the President spurred the thread lock.
Ah, I see. The "baseless screed" (in your opinion) that wasn't baseless is reason to lock a thread. However, all of your far left screeds over the past few years are perfectly fine, and should not be locked. Got it.

Remarkable how the American left behaves like the totalitarians they pretend to despise. I guess the Stalinist/Nazi urge to censor and cancel is now an essential part of left wing ideology.

Here's a thread on Biden's "baseless" wealth: Here’s How Much Joe Biden Is Worth

No need to cite anything on his incompetence; his fifty year record in politics is ipso facto proof.

To be honest, I closed the thread to keep myself from completely losing my temper when replying. I've cooled down a little now so if there is an upwelling of desire for the thread to be reopened, I'm amenable.

These threads are not your personal possessions, to be moderated based on your emotions and biases. They should not be locked simply because you can't control yourself, as you just admitted. If you cannot moderate fairly and judiciously, you should not be a moderator.

If you wish to take my place, you are welcome to do so. Since the sale of the site, I am becoming less and less interested in participating.

I will say this fellas: While I may disagree with others, even vehemently, I truly value all opinions that I have seen on this site.

Over the years it has been my observation that the vast majority of opinions have been measured and professional if not entirely polite. I am fine with that.

Moderation and censoring speech that one does not agree with makes me lose interest in participating.

AAAC is a far closer group, a community if you will, than Style Forum or other similar internet boards that I have seen. I value that.

Very well expressed. You are a man to be admired...

There is not much diversity of thought here at AAAC even in a section entitled: "The Interchange."

Most recently in the thread; "In Case You Missed it." Rather than a Moderator just locking the thread if it seemed too controversial the moderator saw it as appropriate to put their own two cents in, and then, locked the thread. (Getting the last word obviously means a lot, right?)

What a shame.

Sadly, not sure it even matters any more. This place is a virtual ghost town, with just a few of the same posters contributing over and over again.

Unfortunately you are spot on.

Though I think it did matter at one time. Freedom of speech, within limits or course, requires that one risks being offended.

Lack of diversity in thought creates an echo chamber and an intellectually dishonest environment. I believe that our corporate propaganda outlets masquerading as a Free Press have done this to our current national psyche'.

^^ Thanks to Peak and Pine I learned to edit!
The editing function is an improvement over the previous website configuration.
I have no desire to moderate, and based on the behavior of a few here, little desire to participate at all.
Even prior to the sale of the site, I felt that it was losing its edge, and becoming less interesting than had been when I first encountered it.

I am glad that Andy's site achieved the success and stature that it attained under his light-handed management. One of its strengths was that individuals with considerable political differences could be friendly and respectful towards one another, and tolerant of others' positions.

Regards,
Gurdon
