Over the 4th of July weekend I will be attending a birthday party for a family member at a local FL restaurant. The party is due to start at 6:00 pm. I am planning on wearing a Blue Seersucker Jacket, Navy Chinos, White OCBD (either PPBD or other), probably repp tie and White Back shoes. Too much? Too late for that rig?

Good question. The guest of honor has a new 'white jacket' he will be wearing. Otherwise, it will be a guess as to what people would wear. I do have a question though, what part of my outfit would give you concern about what others are wearing?

I think I'll change up to either a plaid or knit tie. I am reserving he White Bucks as an option. If I don't wear them, I'd most likely wear my AE Oxblood Graysons or Cavenaughs.

Before telling Oldsport that I didn't think his proposed rig would be "too much," I thought about asking him what the other guests would probably be wearing. Then I said to myself: "Ah, forget it. It's not a job interview where his career is on the line. It's a family birthday party. Nobody will be judging his choice of clothing--and if anyone does do that, so what? Let Oldsport be a role model. Then some family members, years from now, might say, 'Yeah, Uncle Oldsport. Always a dapper dresser, that one. I learned a lot about clothes from watching him.'"

Birthday party on July 4th at 6 p.m. for a relative? Don't overthink the clothes. Just have a good time.

Where in Florida? People generally dress like slobs here these days. Super casual....even at nicer restaurants. I would wear what you feel comfortable in, within reason, and not worry too much about everyone else.

I only asked because I interpreted your question as implying you didn't want your outfit to be "too much."

Away from that, as others have noted, my guess is you'll be, by far, the best dressed and as long as you're okay with it, it all sounds good to me.

My preference - it's not a right or wrong, just a preference - is to go with lighter colored trousers and shoes when wearing seersucker, especially in a very hot climate. I'd swap out the navy chinos for tan or stone ones and the black shoes for white or dirty bucks. I'd even go with lightweight grey wool trousers before the navy chinos (with white bucks, it's a great look - Leelo has posted pics of himself wearing that combo). But again, just a personal preference.

Most importantly have fun with your family at the party.

You are correct - I apologize, but in my head, when I first saw it, I read "black" shoes. My intent is not to nitpick or throw out cheap barbs as I think that diminishes the site.
No need to apologize. And, of course not...no one could ever accuse you of doing that! You're nothing but a consistently positive contributor here. I'm sorry that my post somehow made you feel defensive. Not my intent.

Ha, yes, never noticed the autocorrect from 'White Bucks' to 'White Black.' Sorry for the confusion.

This birthday is a pretty important milestone. At a minimum the guest of honor and his wife will be dressed appropriately (Sport coat for him, dress for her; the couple are my wife's sister and brother-in-law (guest of honor)). I feel comfortable with my choice of attire, although, I think I will take Fading Fast's recommendation and switch over to the Stone Chinos vice the Navy. I was waffling on that as it was.

I guess my real question was, and I sure didn't make it clear, is the Seersucker jacket ok after 6:00 pm? I assumed in FL is was going to be ok.

IMO seersucker is fine anywhere, any time of day, until Labor Day. You'll look cool and sharp, a nice tribute to the honoree.

I'm with TK167, seersucker is fine at night, especially in FL. Last time I was there, I only brought a seersucker sport coat as I knew from previous trips it would cover all basis (we stayed in South Beach and went out there and in Miami).

It’s funny how we sometimes overthink and ask for advice for these type of events. Have fun and enjoy whatever you wear!

I like the proposed outfit...I might lose the tie....but that’s personal preference. I like the idea of a pincord or seersucker jacket with a different, non matching pair of trousers.
