lapel size and shape

Is there a rule on Lapel size and shape, I know over the years they have varied widely. Recently in the movie collateral, tom Cruise was wearing a suit with small lapels, ( interesting). Oxxford has its own distinct Lapel shape,

Any more comments on this.
