Hi,

On all the sportscoats I have, the lapel width is less than half the distance from the inner edge of the lapel to the shoulder seam. I think this works well for me since I have a slender frame.

Recently, I found a seersucker jacket that seems to fit well. However, the lapels appear to be unusually wide. I've attached photos (don't worry, the blue pin can be removed). They measure as 3.25" with only another 2.25" to the shoulder seam.

Do you think that the lapels are too wide (relative to the shoulder seam) on this jacket? Thank you.

Nope.

The lapels currently fashionable on U.S. RTW are too narrow!

Other than Britain, most of the rest of the world has moved onward.
The lapels currently in fashion are too wide! Everyone on IG and elsewhere is now going to the other extreme. It's as crazy as the narrow trend.

I like lapels no bigger than the one in the OP photo. I am short (5'8) and 40S , so something wide overwhelms me.

Thanks. Forgive my ignorance, but what does IG stand for?

It's about time we saw the end of those dainty little narrow lapels on men's jackets, and the teeny little two inch ties that go with them. I would say that 3.25 is perfect. My favorite suits and jackets are that width in lapels, which happens to go perfectly with my Brooks Brothers ties. They're all 3.25 as well. That jacket looks sharp.

Thanks. I'm OK with the width of the lapel, per-se. I was questioning whether it looked proportional with respect to the remaining (smaller) distance from the lapel edge to the shoulder seam. Thanks, again.

Yes, not bad at all. Most of mine are a little narrower than that but I wouldn't shy away from this one.
Just pretend it's a Tom Ford suit... he seems to fancy wide lapels.

Or take as look at suits from the 1950s where the lapels almost touched the shoulder seam... then these will feel narrow in comparison.

And to me as well. Nicely balanced.
I think those look good, but I can never tell until I have a jacket on. Skinny lapels are definitely trendy and not aesthetically pleasing, but IMO too wide lapels are also not flattering to a shorter guy like myself. Brooks Brothers Fitzgerald fit at 3 inches works for me. I can go slightly wider, but not too much
